SeasideChick
Hi, Another question for this poor Newbie who has just got her first 4 chooks: Have bought some garlic powder to put in chooks' feed to stop poo smelling (as advised on this forum). Can anyone tell me how much I should put in the feeder .... Thanks a lot.

Olly
About the same - a scoopful to about a Grubsworth of pellets (I mix mine up in a jar with limestone flour and grit). I don't think you can overdose - add a scoop, and if you don't think it is working then increase the amount a little bit each time. I wouldn't be without it! Egluntyne
It is amazing what a difference it makes! I also like to use Bokashi Bran....that has a similar effect.

Egluntyne
I get both from a local "horsey" shop. You can also get Limestone flour on Ebay ....sold for reptiles. I put a tbsp in a full grub.
hillfamily
Thanks Egluntine..........will look at SPR mext time I'm there I'm thinking that Limestone flour must be a bit like 'Nutrobal' that I add to my Torties food to keep her shell in good condition
BarbaraJ
with garlic, bokashi and chicken spice , do i need limestone flour too? and what for?
Egluntyne
I'm thinking that Limestone flour must be a bit like 'Nutrobal' that I add to my Torties food to keep her shell in good condition It is just calcium carbonate , whereas Nutrobal has vitamins too. with garlic, bokashi and chicken spice , do i need limestone flour too? and what for? It is a calcium supplement Barbara...useful for helping make the eggshells and bones strong, and calcium is necessary for the muscular contractions involved in pushing the egg out. Sarah B
with garlic, bokashi and chicken spice , do i need limestone flour too? and what for? I put it all in my grubs Barbara, the limestone flour is for calcium to make nice strong eggshells. I also pop in a tiny bit of mixed corn to make it interesting and some mixed grit even though they also have that in a separate dish as well. Mine are in the run all day so if yours free range all the time the grit is not so neccesary. I have cut down on the garlic as it was putting them off the pellets, but with a smaller amount of garlic and the bran my chooks poos are (fingers crossed) top notch and as they should be with no odour
