Rolo Rabbit
Our third chook is really not getting it. The other 2 have been laying for over a week but Babs has yet to produce a proper egg. She's laid at least 3 but they've all been softies and she's not yet managed to do one in the nesting box. We've found them all in the run and only just got to them in time - they were all starting to tuck in. I'm a bit worried that she's not going to get it ever! She knows the other 2 go to the nesting box but she is definitely the 'character' of the trio and doesn't ever follow the crowd. We're going away next week and I'd really like the hen-sitters to have a decent number of eggs to collect to make it worth their while. I'm also worried that they'll get a taste for her eggs and start eating theirs while we're not there to keep an eye on them. Is there anything we can do? She has access to crushed shells and today I didn't let them free range til 4 to encourage her to stay by the nesting box but there was still nothing. I dare you! joking aside - im sure it wont be long.....she likes to keep you in suspense you see and she'll lay when you are least expecting it
Ain't Nobody Here
I had friends looking after my 3 girls for 8 days not long after I got them. They didn't get a single egg . I've since given them some .
alih
it sounds as though you are doind everything right so I would keep doing the same thing..she will get there eventually - she may lay outside if she is bottom chicken and the other 2 are in there! It will all sort itself out but I would warn your friends about the softies and the go away and have a lovely weekend!! She will get the hang of it.. Rolo Rabbit
Yay!!! Good old Babs!! Our first 3 egg day!! I saw her heading off to the nesting box this afternoon and waited for half an hour before I heard her first egg land! It was a little 35 grammer and a bit sticky but we're very proud of her. Waving the roasting tin obviously worked! (Not really)
