New car and travel sick son

Recommended Posts

If you keep on driving is he actually sick or does he just associate feeling sick with being in the car?

Take him for a ride but only go about 20 yards. Get out, praise him and tell him what a clever boy he is. That way he will slowly disconnect the thought of the car with being sick. Slowly increase the distance that you drive and see if this helps. Hope it does.

.... and I'm feeling sick just reading about air fresheners :?

I can't cope with synthetic smells :?

Same here Lesley :( I think since I changed over from ordinary cleaning materials to mainly natural ones, my tolerance to synthetic smells has gone out the window. I cannot bear those air fresheners people hang in their cars, I occasionaly get mini cabs and they ALWAYS have them, I end the journey feeling really :vom:

I was awful as a child and still can make myself sick on a very twisty road and have to stop for fresh air!. I find the newer the car and the more comfy it is the worse it is and a new car smell is terrible - like the rest of you a freshener or perfume the worst. Also a person who motors on and then brakes for corners is the worst rather than a smooth ride!.

I feel so sorry for him but he will grow out of it - my parents did not have a car so I was rarely in one so did not grow out of it for years!

Cheers everyone-some top tips there :D

We have been sitting in the car outside the house every day so that he can play and enjoy being in the car and become familiar with the car smell.

I agree about the air fresheners-they are enough to make anyone feel queezy!!

The wrist bands have arrived so they will be the next thing to try-keeping my fingers crossed

Either today or tomorrow we will be doing another lap of the block with him wearing the wrist bands so I will let you know how that goes.

Never considered taking him to the doctors to get his ears checked-I think I will do that just to put my mind at rest.

Will try some of the tips you have all given and see what happens. Will just take things slowly as I don't want to rush him and put him off for life :?

Not sure if he would actually vomit if we carried on driving-the last time he was in a car was at my Dads funeral last May. He had a travel sick pill and fell asleep on the way there but did vomit a little on the way back.

Since then we have only been on a bus once and the car once. Both times we got out/off before he felt too too ill.

He ends up going white as a sheet, yawning, crying and saying that his tummy hurts.

Poor little mite-he was soo looking forward to driving about in daddy's car
