Did You Know!

Recommended Posts

It's all very well having over 1000 forum members, but did you know that 481 registered members have never made a post! I came across this discovery whilst checking where I was in the total post table(15th btw)!

What do you think of all these members without posts, to me it''s just a waste!

That's an interesting statistic. I don't know if it causes any problems admin wise but it doesn't concern me if members choose not to post. Some people probably just prefer to watch the forum to see what is going on. There is still a tremendous amount to be gained by reading everyone else's posts.

I don't have a problem with registered members who choose not to post, if they want to register just to browse the forum when they like that's their choice and fine by me 8) Maybe you're right, some possibly registered a long time ago, then forgot the forum, or gave up on eglus and chicken keeping, and forgot to disable their user accounts, but I still don't see that as a problem really, it's not affecting the forum in any way... or is it :?

I know for sure that ages ago, before Christmas sometime, I attempted to PM Clare T, but made a mistake and PM'd someone called Clare instead. That PM is still sitting in my sentbox and has never been picked up. So I know that Clare, whoever she is isn't around on the forum any more.

A lot of the time, the activation e-mails go astray which means that although the person is registered, they can't post because their username isn't activated. They probably waited and waited for the e-mail to arrive and then forgot all about it. Occasionally someone will post as a guest to say help, I can't log in and I can sort that out for them but a lot of the time, the membership must just get forgotten.

Kate, I've done that too: PM'd 2 people who have never been back, so never picked them up....Maybe we just frightened them away!:lol:

I don't have a problem with people registering, then forgetting us Martin: That's life I'm afraid, and people do move on. Like Kate said, maybe they simply don't post. It doesn't mean that they don't visit, and you do notice that some people only come here for the first time when they have a problem, which is brilliant, as I would imagine, that was the prime reason for this forum in the first place.

The only problem I can forsee is that if there is no way of de-registering, or asking these non- posters if after a sensible period of inactivity (say maybe a year, whether they wish ot continue as members), that we might end up with thousands of members and all new members having troubles with creating user names etc, as those of us with common names  have already found!

I know from experience that other membership type websites have emailed me in the past to check whether I still want to be a member.... some of them I had completely forgotton about and chose to de register, others I want to stay in, even though I don't post regularly, I might one day, if the need occurs.

You're very competitive about your numbver of posts aren't you?

I too have one or two spare which never got activated for some reason as Kate said.

I don't mind if people don't post.

I get a great deal from this forum but don't necesarilly have anything constructive to add and looking at how many hits each thread has compared with how many posts, it would seem like I'm not the only one.

If somebody reads something that helps them down the line then the forum has done its job without ever knowing
