jjjj
What excitement today. I checked to see if the nest box needed more straw as the girls like to spread it far and wide, and surprise of all surprises, found an egg. We weren't expecting any eggs for at least another week as we haven't had the girls for 4 weeks yet. We were told they would not start laying until about 4 - 6 weeks after we received them. Hope Penny obliges again tomorrow, then we can have an egg each for our lunch.

Purplemaniacs
Congratulations on your first egg! What a lovely surprise to find it in the nest box Did you get your girls from Omlet? Our gingernut called Henny Penny is much younger than our pepperpot both from Omlet. Our gingernut started to lay yesterday, the pepperpot Ebony has been laying for two weeks. Hope you get another egg tomorrow so you can both enjoy fried egg on toast Yum Yum
jjjj
Yes Purplemaniacs both our chickens came with the Eglo from omlet. Penny (Miss Pepperpot) laid the egg and it was still warm when I found it. Henny (Gingernut Ranger) seems to be younger. She was smaller when we had her and her comb and wattles aren't as large or as red as Penny's. Penny has been teasing us all day, in and out of the Eglo and sitting in the nest box but no egg today, BUT we shared the 1 egg - all 50 grams - of it for our tea tonight! And yes it was Yum Yum. I used to think animal owners were crackers, being so daft about them. We joined the ranks of the crackers many years ago when we had 2 rescue kittens. They were so small we thought we had selected just 1, of course we could not separate them and take just 1 (they were litter brothers born in the RSPCA) and thats when the crackers status began. The cats died several years ago and we were crackerless - until the chickens arrived. Here we go again.
