ubereglu
Well Starlet has been looking a bit under the weather the last week. She last laid on Friday 18th April and hasn't laid since-she's tried though, but to no avail. She's also been limping, but I think that may have been due to jumping off the compost heap and landing hard on the paving slabs underneath. However at times her tail's been down and this morning she just stood on the patio hunched, but after that she's been happily wondering the garden. She's now three years old and is she just naturally slowing down? Also she has had white droppings quite often, only during the day though and not at night. Sometimes with red bits in-although these might be berries as Molly eats them and they have the same effect. A few weeks before she went off lay she had a dreadful cold, although this was sorted out with some citricidal in their water. For the moment I'll see how she goes and if she gets any worse. Tina C
Sounds like she could be slowing down due to her age. Cinnamon has just posted 'A pair of lethargic hens' and maybe something relevant will pop up in that thread?
SueChick
You have probably read the sticky from myself regarding how ill chickens can get just from lack of calcium. Are yours on limestone flour? It may be what is wrong with your poorly lady - especially as she was limping as well. Just an idea but it might be worth a try....
ubereglu
I don't think it's to do with that as I have a feeling it's just a sprain as she can put weight on it, she just doesn't like to. Also she gets fed grit everyday-a mixture of dissolveable for eggs and normal grit for her gizzard.
Chicken Licken
If she had bronchitis then this would cause her to lay shelless eggs, she could have one inside somewhere - causing peritonitis. This is what the vet thinks happened to my girl Clara - she kept trying to lay but to no avail and was very poorly and put down. I hope your girl perks up soon. ubereglu
When she was laying, she was laying proper eggs though. Do you know if you can give them anything for bronchitis though? Are there any other symptoms for it?
ubereglu
Well, I think she's better now! She actually laid an egg today, has squarked a lot and been trying to peck Molly.
Egluntyne
Good news. Not about the pecking.
