Pecka block

Recommended Posts

I bought one of these - mainly for days when they might get locked up in the run. They look at it like some alien device I have dared to put in the run - they do not realise it is food - anyone else have this problem?

I put some cooked potatoes around the base a couple of days ago - I thought if they ate them the may just peck some seeds at the same time and realise it was food - no luck - they just ate the potatoes!

Mine did exactly the same thing. They would slowly walk up to it but were to frightened to touch it and would run away if it moved  I just left them to it and eventually the bravest chicken found out what it was for and the rest joined in. :D

I use one from the local farm shop for budgies, it lasts the 4 girls just over a week & costs £1, its full of seeds stuck together with honey and attatched to a plastic gismo to hang it onto the door of the run, they love it

It's a solid block of seeds etc, all 'glued' together with something sticky. You can buy them from pet food shops, feed suppliers etc and hang them in the run.

Mine's lasted weeks, they were interested at first but I think it's a bit tough for them - I keep meaning to soak it a bit to get them going!

I placed one in the run about 3 days ago and they still do not realise that it is food they just walk past it. I purchased mine at a farm supply store it is made specially for chickens it's labeled Forage Cake and placed it in a very large suet holder so I could hang it on the run mesh and keep it out of the mud. I was hoping that it would distract them from feather plucking no such luck. I sprayed them all yesterday with hot pick a hot pepper spray.
