safari chick
Hi I've just seen an advert for ex-battery hens. It says that they want a donation of £1 per hen. The advert can be seen at the following "Preloved" web address and has 12 days to go: http://www.preloved.co.uk/fuseaction-adverts.showadvert/index-1031402732/185fafa7.html The advert says "Rescued Ex-battery hens - Rescued battery hens available to kindly homes. Request £1 donation per hen as contribution to rescue and rehab costs. These girls are in good condition now, friendly, easy to handle, well-feathered and laying. Preference given to rehomers in North London or surrounding area, wanting to keep ex-battery hens as garden pets. Hens need a secure outdoor run and a secure place to sleep - ark, eglu, shed and pen, whatever. Check out the ex-battery hens forum if you're thinking about it and need more info. " I am not sure what the link is to the BHWT or if they would support this sort of advert but if anyone is desperate for ex-bats this may be a way of getting them. Egluntyne
I'm pretty sure that the BHWT would not approve of or support this kind of thing. They vet potential owners carefully, and would not encourage the offloading of rescued hens to a third party. Also, the BHWT only ask for 50p per hen, although most people give generous donations. Christian
The BHWT take a long time to form close relationships with the farmers, so not sure if they approve. Buffie would be the one to answer this.
abwsco
Just a thought, the ex battery hens forum could be the yahoo group. Also, there are a couple of other groups (Free at Last being one) who rescue exbatts so it could be to do with one of those and not BHWT. safari chick
I think you are right re the battery hens forum being referred to in the ad rather than the BHWT - I didnt realise it at the time of posting but I just saw the forum mentioned on www.ex-battery-hens.com website.
