Penny
Where would I acquire a hedgehog and a toad? My garden is friendly enough for them to live. I know there was a hedgehog cull in the Hebrides at one point - does anyone know if they'd like a hedgehog rehomed?
The Dogmother
Try scouting around locally for an animal rescue centre, or ask at your vet - they'd be sure to know.
chickencam
If your garden is the right place for them they will move in They may even be there already.
redhotchick
Chickens may try and eat the toads! Mine caught one last week, I got it off them and popped it over the fence, I think it was ok!
The Dogmother
My toads live on the patio, well out of reach of marauding chickens
Penny
The snag is, I've got a high stone wall all round the garden - there's no entry or exit point as it's in the middle of all the other gardens and it's reached by a path between high stone walls from my back door. So I don't think I've got a hedgehog or a toad - although my garden's very hedgehog-friendly - lots of quiet corners and piles of logs and so on. Lewis
You could try asking any of your friends/family who have a pond if you cound have a toad from their garden.
Penny
You could try asking any of your friends/family who have a pond if you cound have a toad from their garden. I don't think my friends or family would have a spare toad unfortunately - I am already regarded as one picnic short of a sandwich what with the hens in the garden and if I go and ask for toads, I'll be locked up !! craftyhunnypie
hi - try preloved for your hedgehogs & hoglets. Not sure about toads, some local pond dipping in a brook? Emma.x
fluffymuppet
Unfortunately, if you've got no entry and exit points in your garden then it's probably not suitable for a hedgehog. They need quite large territories to roam around to find enough food and range across several gardens every night. We have a gate with a gap under it, which is where our hedgehog(s) usually come in. There's a big step up to the garden from there, so I built them a ramp
Lewis
They need quite large territories to roam around to find enough food and range across several gardens every night. I saw on the telly the other day (Zoo Vet at Large ) that they have a territory of 3 square miles!
