I have to wait another month

Recommended Posts

:cry::cry::cry:

I rang the breeder today to see how things were going but the Buff Orpingtons didn't get their act together and the chicks are only 6 weeks old. I also might have to have a Blue instead of a Black, but that's not a problem - I like them all!

So now it looks like the beginning of July for collection. Looking on the brighter side, the Splash is older than the others so hopefully we will get some eggs before the others start - a gradual introduction for us (and any noise for the neighbours).

At least it buys us time to continue getting the garden up straight. Last weekend we put up a fence which should stop the dog next door getting in. He now has to get over their weedy wire fence, through a conifer hedge and our Fort Knox barrier!!

Thanks - I hadn't heard of them before so I have added them to my breeders lists. This was the first breeder that we visited that we saw who look after their birds very well, so I am quite happy to wait a bit longer - even thought it was a bit disappointing at the time.

I couldn't wait that long for mine.

I took them all at 6 weeks left the cube off the stand and built a small plank ladder, left the roosting bars out, covered the inside with aubiose.

It will be 3-4 months before they lay but I get to watch them grow up and they will be laying in autumn when most hens are moulting.

Well the waiting game isn't putting me off - just down the road is a saddlery and they supply Aubiose. I came home armed with a bale and some red mite powder. They also did garlic powder, but I thought that the enormous tub would probably be better for either an enormous flock or several generations of pet chickens! Shopping has started! :D

This is where my girls are coming from:

The lady does have other breeds that she hasn't put on the website - she has 2 little children, so I guess the website is the last thing to update. She is very nice, very helpful. She thought that the girls would be very happy in their cube - didn't try to put me off like other people have reported. I think she has Marsh Daisies too. I am hoping she will add Croad Langshans to her collection - stunning birds (I do like the big fluffies).

It is a bit of a trek, but a nice journey and the pub grub down the road was quite pleasant.
