Lewis
Chickens have popped up twice in GCSE papers this year ... so far. The first time was in a short story in the English Literature paper, where the house which people lived in was compared to a coop. The Mother was compared to a chicken aswell, as she was pecking food off her plate THEN, battery hens came up in Biology 1/5 of the marks were about Battery Hens! The question was asking about why the hens are kept in restricted movement. I sat there and thought of you Omleteers

MedusA
1/5 of the marks were about Battery Hens! The question was asking about why the hens are kept in restricted movement. I think my answer (rant) to that would have got me an F grade! Still you can't say GCSEs aren't topical.
hillfamily
Secretly I think chickens are plotting world domination ........must ask DS and DS's friends if they had question about chooks in their Biology paper yesterday (not sure which exam board they sat )
Guest
My DD2 did Biology yesterday too. She hasn't mentioned chickens. English Lit was on Tuesday - again no mention of chickens. I'll have to ask!!
daj198
I did that Biology paper too! You must be on AQA! I drew a little speech bubble coming from the battery hen diagram saying "free me!" and also wrote down the BHWT URL. Even if I don't come out with a very good grade, maybe the examiner will adopt some ex-batts!
Yorkshire Pudding
I was an examiner. Those little bits and bobs candidates add to papers always made me smile! I once had a very nice letter pleading for a few extra marks tucked into a paper - sadly I couldn't oblige...
daj198
lol, one of my teachers was an examiner and they said they got a five pound note once! The candidate didn't get any more marks though...
Guest
My DD2 did Biology yesterday too. She hasn't mentioned chickens. English Lit was on Tuesday - again no mention of chickens. I'll have to ask!! I've asked! Yes, she had the question in the Biology exam and also said that had she written what she really felt, she would probably have been disqualified!! But no chickens in her Literature paper. Martin B
Yes I saw them in the Biology paper. Not the easiest paper in my opinion.
daj198
Not the easiest paper in my opinion. I agree. I do triple science and the B3 paper afterwards was a lot easier than the B2 which had the chickens in.
Lewis
No, none in my Literature paper. lwescott must be on a different exam board for English Literature... I do OCR!
Lewis
I put a big cross over the batter Hens picture and put BHWT on the top of it aswell . Most people thought that the B3 paper was easier than B2. I think that some of the questions were badly worded.
