Teenagers save duckling

Recommended Posts

In the wake of these terrible teenage murders and attacks, here is a nice story involving teenagers.

My ES was rowing on the canal this afternoon when a couple of girls from another school in another boat found a duck and her ducklings in their way. One of the girls actually hit one of the ducklings with her blade - deliberately  . (I checked this a few times - he was adamant it was deliberate :? ).

The mum then pecked at the poor duckling quite harshly and it was swimming backwards with its neck bent so the boys rescued it and put it in a bucket of water, thinking they might have to put it out of its misery :( . Happily it soon started swimming normally so they put it in one of the boats and returned it to its mum who accepted it back :) .

I love the image of a load of 6 foot boys rescuing a tiny duckling :D .

They named it Donald  .

what a nasty, evil thing to do to a poor baby bird  Hopefully it was just concussed and there's no permanent damage. I just don't understand why someone would do this!!!??? I can remember being a teenager and not wanting to thwack the life out of innocent animals, quite the opposite!

You've obviously raised your son to have compassion and respect for life, as did my mum and dad. Shame the same can't be said of this girl! Your son's actions are laudable!

Did him and his mates say anything to these girls I wonder?

I'd have been tempted to tip their boat over!

My brother once, many years ago, disturbed a fox running out of Edinburgh Zoo, after a night out boozing in Corstorphine. The fox looked at him, then scarpered, having dropped something when it saw him - he went over to investigate and discovered a teeny duckling that the fox must have been taking back for it's cubs. It was still alive, so the poor wee s"Ooops, word censored!" was tucked into Colins jacket and brought home, where upon my mother was moken up to, well... mother it overnight. She called the zoo the next morning, they confirmed the duck enclosure had been attaked by foxes overnight, and arranged to pick up the duckling. When they arrived, they arrived with a reporter and photographer from the Evening News in tow, and the story ended up both on the front page of the Evening News, and in the Scotsman!

He was, of course, named 'Lucky Ducky' and we sponsored him for a good few years after.

Oh what a sweet story... :)

For anyone to hit a duckling on its head is a total shame.... but for a group of boys to take notice and intervene is a total blessing... would your guys be willing to be called the donald rescue lads ?? 8):wink:

Never realised you were from Edinburgh... gosh I miss the place so much... my friends still live up there... I lived there as a child free person... loved leith... and the oyster bar on queen street (was it on queen street?) and stockbridge... and the whole of it...

I want to go back to see my friends, but get at a loss as to where to take kids???
