Thank you for your kind replies. I have written another three reports and am rewarding myself with a lunch break before returning to the grindstone.

8 minutes until the spring rolls are ready!!!!

After my next three reports I am going down into the garden too give the hens some tlc. Their new longer taurpaulin has arrived just in time as it's raining on and off here. After putting it on I shall have a cup of tea and return to writing again.

It's a good way to get through the horrors of reports!!! This time every year I think of retiring (at 41!) as I find it such a stressful time.

AJuff, I've had to visit an osteopath this week, to sort out my stiff neck from sitting at the computer too much, reading here about chickens. But what are you supposed to do when it's too dark to gaze at your girls any more?

Please could a more experienced chicken person reassure me that this is just a phase which will pass eventually?

I think you might have have a mild case of:

  • "chicken fever" = when you can't sleep for thinking of chickens, your whole day is dominated by thinking of chickens and your life as you knew it is generally taken over by all things chicken. Normally suffered by soon-to-be chicken keepers but as there is no known cure, symptoms may persist! (attr. Emma&Louie)
