Hi,

My Ruby lays lovely dark brown shelled eggs, but for the last 2 mornings they have been nearly white in colour. Wondered if anyone knew if this was normal as I haven't seen this question pop up before. She is my most reliable layer, I think she has only had 1 day off since she started laying in March and she lays the biggest eggs too.

Any advice on this colour change would be appreciated.

I will be interested in the reply as my oldest girl's eggs have been a funny colour lately.

 

The almost look like they've been dusted in talcum powder.

My amber-type who normally lays orangey brown eggs, has laid a few odd ones over the last week. I think the pigment is the last stage of the egg production and if they get spooked at that point you can get funny eggs.

Funny - mine have all been much paler lately. I haven't changed their diet, or anything that I add to the pellets; they always get vegetable s"Ooops, word censored!"s as treats so no change there; I wondered if it was something to do with the weather?

Todays was pure white. So 3 days on a trot getting whiter & whiter. Her diet is exactly the same so no change there. Very strange.

Mine are the same - 2 creamy ones and only 1 brownish one where before it was 2 brown ones and only one cream one

I heard that the colour gets sort of sprayed on, as the last stage in egg production. Apparently if you get an egg when its just been laid and is still damp, you can wipe the colour off!

Yup ours too, we had darkish brown, light brown, pinky brown & a gorgeous creamy white . . hmmm which is no longer creamy white ..its now brown!!

 

I wondered if it was the new layers pellets bag I've opened, or maybe i hadnt got the oultry sice mix correct, or maybe i forgot the limestone . .hmm glad i'm not the only one. . maybe it is something of some external influence .. . .weather conditions .. maybe not enough sunshine

I have changed the pellets to Organic ones from normal ones - do you think thats the problem?? I prefer them on the organic ones although they have other thoughts about that but are eating them.
