Seagazer
My Cookie is not well at the moment. She started being very quiet wednesday night. We were at our caravan and came home the next day. Took her to the vets yesterday morning and he took bloods as could find nothing untoward apart from very high temperature (40). Hubby got results back as I went to Osmonds concert. Apparently there is something wrong with her blood! It might be an infection or something to do with her stomach or her liver??? She's not eating, hardly drinking. If she's no better today we have to take her in to go on a drip. She's definitely got to have another set of blood taken next week to make sure its back to normal. She's lost weight recently and you can feel all her bones. For a cross breed dog she certainly does not live up to the 'healthy mongrel' tag. She's got a very delicate stomach. She went into a complete depression with her season. Then about four weeks later she had a phantom pregnancy, gave up eating and was very depressed and snappy with other dogs. Once she was spayed she went back to being a normal 14 month old dog. But now she's back down again. Its so worrying. With my old dog (a battersea Heinz 57) we only ever had to take her for her boosters once a year until she got to about 12 (had a nice bill for £2,000 - thank goodness for pet insurance). Seagazer
Thanks Cathy - the thing is don't you just wish that you trully understood your animals? I'm quite good at picking up their different moods but I really wish they could just say 'mum, I've got tummy ache etc'. I always feel silly going in to the vets and saying 'she's not right, somethings wrong'. I think the older vet at our surgery thinks I'm mad (could be right) and almost dismisses me . I keep thinking I'll change surgeries but the younger vets are nice.

Seagazer
Thanks everyone, Cookie has been on the antibiotics for a couple of days now and has picked up a bit. We took her out to the meadows near us and she had a good run around. I'm hoping she's on the road to recovery although I have a nagging doubt in the back of my mind that this is going to an ongoing thing. Seagazer
Thanks Nutmeg, she is much better. I just hope it lasts this time. She's been so under the weather for such a young girl. She has to go back in 3 weeks for another blood test to check that things have gone back to normal. I just hope she starts putting some weight on. People that know her can see how thin she is. Its a good job she has curly hair or else I would have the RSPCA on to me. These animals can be such a worry at times. But I love them (even naughty dogs).
