MariaB
Have had my chucks for 4 weeks now and they are great. We have a lovely run made by Tony from aviaries 4 u. I started by putting Aubiose in the run for the girls to scratch around in but when it gets wet its really not very nice. Can any one give me any suggestions as to what they have put in their runs. Our run stands on a hard base. Thanks
Tessa the Duchess
I don't think you can do better than use Hemcore or Auboise in a run. Why is it getting wet? I assume your run has a roof, so is the rain coming in to the run at the sides? I have found recently that due to the heavy rain the Hemcore in my run, which has a roof, has also got very wet and nasty. I have bought a large sheet of plastic and I am going to make a cover for the side of the run which I can roll up when it is not raining. Hope this helps Tessa
kannie
The hemcore's not nice when it gets wet. We have our run on a concrete base, and the rain seems to run in and dampen the hemcore, even though theres a plastic cover. I think it sort of mops it up. We used to have bark, which I think coped with the wet and poo a bit better. It didn't compost so well though.
*mummy_hen*
Hi Maria We have ours on a concrete slap base, covered in wood chippings, still goes a little funny when really wet but dries out super quick. I just rake this each night when they go in and it looks as good as new! Is also a very cheap way to do it as will also need changing every 3-4 months i would imagine. We bought 3 massive bags from Homebase for £10.
Ain't Nobody Here
At the risk of getting ridiculed for yet another photo of my marvellous corrugated plastic sheeting, maybe you need something like this to keep your run dry ....

MariaB
Thank you for your replies. We do have a roof on the run but rain was coming in through this so we have made some adjustments to this & hope this improves the problem. I may try the wood chips as an alternative. I think i had too much bedding in the run as it was quite deep so the stuff at the bottom cant dry out.
