debbie26pet
i was on layer pellets, but got some mash to try my girls, they loved it. but wow what a waste sent hubby of to get more and he came back with layer pellets. so they are on this, mixed with what mash i have left. now this was sund. but the eggs are slowing down gone from 4-5 to 2 today, yesterday 3, do you think they are objecting to the change, or does mash make a difference? im tempted to go out, and buy a bag of mash and mix, the last lot was mixed as well. Egluntyne
It is possible, although essentially they are the same. It is not a good idea to keep chopping and changing though, it will upset them. It is probably best to make a firm decision about what you want them to eat and stick with it.
SLK69
I keep mine on a mix - they were ex-batts and used to mash, and I have just got in the habit of mixing bags - keeps us all happy and I get 30 eggs a week from 5 chooks. Susie

superjules
I'm not really very happy with mash, I have to say. A lot is getting wasted. I've put 2 big trays underneath the feeder and the amount they are chucking around is staggering. Of course, once it's out of the feeder they don't want to eat it as it gets all manky and pooey. I've tried adjusting the feeder but as I keep bantams and hybrids together, the feeder needs to be low enough for the bantams which means the big girls can flick the mash everywhere. I can't risk getting rats - OH would totally freak out at that. Also, Yoda has been laying weak-shelled and no-shelled eggs, which has been the final nail in the coffin. I switched them back to pellets today. Luckily they're not fussy (evidently unless it's spilt mash!), they are a bunch of gannets and will eat whatever I put in their feeder. bronze
When I bought mine they were on mash. It was annoying so I switched to pellets and stuck with them
Stevie
I had this dilema too cos mine clearly prefered mash, but they're messy to the extreme where the ground underneath looks like a beach... So after careful deliberation and also the fact i dont want vermin-they'll be getting pellets.
Egluntyne
Mine are on pellets. When I got the ex-batts I bough them a sack of mash, but I changed them over to pellets at the earliest opportunity as it was always my intention for them to join the other girls who were on pellets. After a couple of weeks, I gave them a mash and pellet mix, and increased the pellet ratio gradulally over the next month or so. They didn't complain......I'm not sure they noticed. *mummy_hen*
Mine are also on a mix of mash and pellets and i don't get any objections from them. We get 3 to 4 eggs a day from 5 ex-batts although yesterday we had one from all
