Butch is sitting in the nesting box. She's very quiet and when I peeped in she was just laying down in the corner. She then went even lower and started doing her tap dance.

 

Does this mean she might lay an egg or that she's not feeling well?

 

I don't know whether to be excited or to whether I should be ringing the vets!!!

 

If she's going to lay an egg I hope she does it soon as I have an exam at lunchtime

That sounds like you should be expecting an egg very soon and is nothing at all to worry about!

 

Has she been crouching recently?

They make a tremendous fuss about their first egg. It must be quite an unnerving experience for them too. It can take hours.

Yes she's been crouching for about a week or so and doing her tap dance. Ooh how exciting! Hope it happens this morning, it will be just my luck that she does it when I'm out.

 

My mum is coming over to look after YS as he's not well, so at least if she does do it later someone will be around to witness it!

 

I should just leave her alone then and not keep looking?

Hooray - I'm pround to announce the arrival of our first egg!!

 

As the pround step-grandmother of the egg I would like to tell you all that its a dinky little 41g

 

I'm also going to announce it in the egg bit as well. I'm so chuffed I feel like crying!!!!

It is isn't it. I've emailed pictures to all my friends and relatives. I sent a photo of the egg from my phone to my son who has gone on holiday and to my daughter who is at uni. I'm sure they think I'm demented.

 

I got a cheer from my fellow students at class though as they've all been asking about the chickens.

Its next week, today was the mock Honestly I think I am definitely getting worse with age.

 

My neighbours have all told me that they've been saving up egg boxes!

Hi Ann... that really made me laugh,just the sort of thing I'd do! But having said that, if I'd just laid my 1st egg [by proxy] I think I'd be a bit confused too! However, now I'm a pensioner!!!!! I don't have to make excuses! I just put it down to age and eccentricity!

As for 'du vin'...already poured! Don't forget ..we're an hour ahead of you

If I can work it out , I will post pics of cube n chooks 'a la francaise'.
