Cube arrived early...leaking....

Recommended Posts

My reconditioned cube arrived yesterday (not due til tomorrow!!!). :D

Was really excited and managed to put it together is just over 2 hrs (very pleased with that!). Was really worried about the whole leaking cube thing i'd read about so did the water test and I am really annoyed to say that I have a leaky cube even though when I ordered it i was assured it would not leak and any issues had already been fixed on the reconditioned ones that get sent out.

I rang omlet this morning and they are going to send out the fix pack that they have made. I know it is par for the course for most people but I can't believe it is an accepted thing to pay such a lot of money and have something that is not 100% right....

Fingers crossed the fix will work.... :?

That is such a shame considering you are still paying a premium price for what is intended to be a premium product...

I'm so sorry to hear your having problems, but to be honest, I didn't even realise that the Cubes leak! Is that true then?

I've seen severel posts about the leaking Glugs though...

Also may I ask what exactly the fix pack is? What comes in it? And what you need to do with it?

In all honesty I would have expected these issues to have been rectified during the quality control process, before it was manufactured and then released to the paying consumers...

Also when you say leak, do you mean that there is a puddle forming somewhere within the Cube?

Or do you mean that there is water collecting within the plastic itself?

Hi Daisy,

Sorry to hear about your cube leaking - did it come with two black rubber pieces fitted around the drain hole in the gutter at the top of the side panels, or was it just plain plastic?

I would do the quote thing but not worked it out yet!

It came with one small black piece of rubber type stuff on the side where the ladder is. Nothing anywhere else despite being assured all the fixes would've been done. To be honest the side with the black rubber bit had a leak anyway so if it was meant to have been fixed, the fix didn't work. The poo tray had a load of water in it on that side when we tested it for leaks.

There were also 2 pools of water in the nest box (opposite side), front and back. It is possible to see that the water flows over the edge of the drainage channels but clearly these don't work properly.

I was initially concerned as the lid is warped and does not sit flush to the walls at all (is quite flappy....not sure that is a real word!!!)...my husband said that wouldn't matter. I don't think this is the main problem but will be asking for a new lid if the fix kit doesn't work.

I am hoping that this can be sorted out....have got a couple more hens coming this week so need it to be!

I'm sorry to hear your cube is leaking and there are some other forum members that have had this problem too.

I just wanted to say that I have had my cube since last August - it doesn't leak and I did test this a few weeks ago by pouring large volumes of water over it - not a drip inside :D

It doesn't help you or any of the others that have problems, but I do think that people raise this issue when they leak on the website while those that don't have a problem say nothing making it a little unbalanced.

Just wanted to say hang in there! I have been speaking to James about my leaking cube ( arrived last week) and he has been great in trying to sort.. I have been testing and found the issue with mine and sorted a fix.. James is also taking all issues on board and feeding back to designer.

I too was very upset having spent a serious amount of money as can ill afford it really, however I have been pleased with his response.

From what I've read the fix does work. I haven't installed ours yet as I cobbled someting together myself that seems to work well.

I thought that the design of the back panel had been altered to solve this problem and that it was only early Cubers like ourselves who needed the retrofit.

I will be honest in the fact that I didn't know ours leaked at all until I subjected it to a 'Monsoon' test with a hosepipe.

I am sure Omlet will do what is necessary to correct the problem.

I do feel that Omlet should have been able to do something about the leaks before now - I have had my cube since July last year and it has leaked ever since. I certainly told them within a couple of weeks so they have known for an awfully long time. I know I wasn't alone even then :(

However I have now received the retro fit kit and have attached it and today it rained - so far the nest box is dry......................the rain wasn't particularly heavy so I will be quietly optimistic until we have heavier rain.

Is a hosepipe a fair way of testing for leaks? Rain just doesn't come down like that, and there are gaps and vents in the Cube that are meant to be there.

(If you sent the water upwards so that it fell like a shower, then ignore that comment. Anyway, we have rain now so it is being tested properly.)

I found James extremely helpful when I had a slight leak in my second Cube, and sent him photographs. It was a very tiny leak when it rained heavily, and I cured it just by ramming a bit of old sponge in the gap.

If you are not sure where the leak is coming from, feel the inside of the roof. Where the water ends up is not necessarily an accurate indication.

Yes, I did do a simulated rain test with the hose pipe and it would be equivalent to a very torrential downpour rather than normal rain.
