Deb Dav
Our veggie plot is just about up and running now but I don't want to use any chemicals to deter the pests. I know that if you plant marigolds/tagetes amoungst things it deters aphids. So I was wondering if anyone plants other things to keep pests away? Popcorn
Hi Deb, Anything that has a lemon or citrus smell will repel the bugs away, as will lavendar. You can also fill a spray bottle with soapy water and spray plants. It's chemical free and will dehydrate those nasties and it will also clean plants of pollution. Ms Cluck
Another one for keeping away the aphids is chives - plus you get to use them too Lyn
Karen & co.
I always plant carrots and alternate them with rows of onions, and when I've disturbed the tops of the carrots ie picked or thinned them, then I disturb the tops on the onions to deter carrot root fly, as the onion smell stops them finding the carrots Karen x

The Dogmother
Seeing Gina's advice made me wonder whether a spray of vinegar and water would work - remember the post about rinsing veggies in vinegar and water to wash the bugs and polution off? I am getting loads of veggie seedlings from the Outlaws, so will be posting like mad for advice soon
Guest
Hi Deb,You can also fill a spray bottle with soapy water and spray plants. It's chemical free it's chemical free - only if you leave out the soapy bit - that's the nasty chemical that dehydrates the nasties... without the chemical - it wouldn't work...
