1 week and hooked!

Recommended Posts

Well I have now completed my first week of being a chicken "mum" after wanting it so badly for 10 years :D

The girls have settled in very well and happily potter around the garden (and kitchen), they follow me everywhere whether wanted or not! they jump on our laps and tolerate cuddles quite willingly! I feel surprisingly confident having them around and its like I''ve had chooks for years

I find it amazing how attached I am already and cannot imagine the garden without them already :) They are truly great pets as so funny, inquisitive and simply captivating.. and to top it all give the most amazingly tasty eggs as bed and board

The only down side is I am constantly picking up poo and hiding underneath the windows -something I thought you all actually joked about rather than actually meant :?

I know I am now hooked for life and already planning how I can build another run, fit another cube and have more girls (ex batts or bantams) in a year or so

No wonder you are all so hooked!

Congrats EggLou! I can't help noticing that despite only having chooks for a week, you have contributed over 400 posts to the forum...were you a member for all of those 10 years you have been wanting chooks then?:lol:

Ahh no not quite  just carried out some indepth researching before getting them.. and then once on here you can't quite help adding to other threads..

Note to self! I must post less

hi

it is amasing how quickly you get hooked isnt it, i didnt think it would happen to me, i was sure 2 would be more than enough

i have 4 now and wondering what excuse i can think of to have more :o

sarah

ooh yes, me too! I am thinking that they start to slow down their laying after the first year so I will definitely have an excuse then, but in the meantime...hmmm...let me know if you come up with a good argument!

they;'re still wonderful in the winter too! (tho cleaning out is a bit more of a chore, as it can take ages for everything to dry...)

they love the autumn leaves, and the windfall apples, and when it snows they are hysterical! mine even like the rain - brings the worms up I spose.
