Guest
I know it's recommended for sour crop but Fatima seemed under the weather, moping, sitting down, walking slowly with tail down. We wormed them with flubenvet in dec and march and her crop wasn't hard or soft. She was eating and drinking but just looking off colour. She also had runny poos. So we tried mashing up some soaked seeded batch bread with some probiotic yoghurt, they all loved it and lick the dish clean! She perked up after that so we've been giving them the same concoction every few days. I've done some googling and found sites that say it is actually a good thing to feed probiotics to poultry. I just wondered what everyone else thought, any comments?
Guest
does anyone think we should try bokashi instead?
Egluntyne
Been giving it to mine from the start a couple of times a week. They love it and it helps colonise the gut with useful bacteria and keeps things nice and healthy in the crop.

Guest
if it's the bran, does anyone know a cheap place to order it on the net as my feed supplier don't stock it (I've just asked them).
..lay a little egg for me
I've been soaking left-over bread in the whey from making kefir (a yogurt-type culture) for the chooks and they love it! Glad to know it is healthy for them too!
Egluntyne
I meant the yoghurt, but now you come to ask, they do get the Bokashi Bran too. It makes their poo firm and fragrant.
chelsea
mine have yoghurt in the summer (they like it cool on a hot summers day!) Avipro is probiotic aswell and a good "pick me up" for under the weather animals.
Guest
right I'll get some bokashi and add it as per the instructions and give them yoghurt perhaps once a week. thanks
cluckbok
Hi ya, do you give the yoghurt room temp or straight from fridge? Is it ok to give on it's own?
Egluntyne
I give it straight from the fridge and often just on its own. They fling it everywhere.
chelsea
straight from the fridge also. goes everywhere and the chooks use is as an anti-wrinkle cream also.
Carol U
Mine adore both bokashi and the yoghurt and it certainly improves the poos. You can order the bokashi online from Wiggly Wigglers, who are about the cheapest I've found.
Keanie Bean
Ok two new additions to my chicken diets bokashi and probiotic yougart. These chooks are going to eat better than me I think Can you give them the bokashi bran you would make from your own bokashi bin or am I getting my wires crossed? Egluntyne
It is the same bokashi bran that you put in your bokashi bin to start the fermentation process.
Keanie Bean
Thanks, I thought for a moment they could have the end product but it's just me having a moment. Doh. I've just been looking at the wiggly wiggelers site, its going to be dangerous I've just ordered a catalogue. They have got some lovely stuff. sarah.x
ChookieCaz
I bought a lot of Bokashi from Wiggly Wigglers which I mix in with their layers pellets and they have it most days. Recently, they finished off my last starter yoghurt and over last week and this week, have occasionally had a little Kefir poured in their dish of table s"Ooops, word censored!"s. Happy Christmas!
