frenchtoast
Phoebe, our lovely Mrs Pepperpot laid her first egg this morning 2 weeks after joining us! She trashed the shredded paper in the nesting box so it was blowing all over the garden in the wind. I came out and sat beside them for a while and noticed how red in the face she was especially round the eyes then she went inside and just watched me through the door. I checked later on in the day and there was a beautifully formed 40g egg. It must have been all the attention and treats she got yesterday as star guests at my daughter's chicken party! frenchtoast
Thank you for replies! What's the most popular way to eat a first?!! Has anyone taken a poll on the forums? Poached perhaps? ps I tend to lose track of posts on the different forums so never know where all the great tips are. I posted something last week and have never been able to find it again! Is it just me?
frenchtoast
How to eat the first egg? Just for the record, we coddled it! In a little Royal Worcester coddler that hasn't been out of its box for over 20 years! There were two blood spots in the white which put my daughter off a bit but we dipped soldiers in the yolk and very tasty it was too. Does anyone else worry about blood spots? They were quite large. Seagazer
I haven't seen any bloodspots yet. I must admit it does put me off if I see them. When I cooked our first eggs my YS turned round and said that he'd gone off eggs Luckily I managed to change his mind. I've been saving some up and I'm going to cook the famous lemon drizzle cake tomorrow!
Christian
Congratulations on your first egg, frenchtoast! Don't worry too much about blood spots, they will settle when they get into laying properly. If you click on your profile button at the bottom on your post, then click on 'find all posts by...' you should find what you are searching for. frenchtoast
Thanks for the help Christian. Phoebe's just laid egg2 and it's still warm! I went out to check that they were still behind their netting and couldn't see her. It was so sunny I could'nt seen her in the shadows of the eglu so I had a peak in the eggport and she just looked up at me! I felt like a peeping tom! I'd love the lemon drizzle cake recipe Seagazer, do you have a link?...
Mutrix Farmers
Congratulations. I still find it exciting to find an egg, especially a warm one from under a chicken! I don't feel like I'm intruding, just sharing an intimate moment. There is a recipe for Lemon Drizzle cake on Omlet Wiki. Haven't made it yet though. I'm taking tomorrow afternoon off work and I plan to do some serious baking, I've been stockpiling eggs all week
frenchtoast
Thanks Mutrix. There's so much to browse and so little time!! I'll give myself 10 more minutes online then...
