Anyone know where to get hens in East Dorset/West Hampshire

Recommended Posts

I ordered my Eglu today, but unfortunately we are 2 miles outside the delivery zone for chickens, and the Omlet people sadly wouldn't accommodate that. I need to get 2 chickens for when the Eglu is delivered on 30th June because it's for my daughter's 16th birthday and we wanted it all to be there together for her.

We are right on the border of Dorset/Hampshire, near Ringwood/Ferndown if anyone knows a reliable breeder.

Thanks.

Muffy.

Hi Muffy,

We got 2 new girls to join our original 2 Omlet ones a couple of months ago from Eden Livestock in Stockbridge, Hampshire - not sure if thats the right end of Hampshire for you or not :?

We paid about £15 each, they are very nice chickens and the lady there was very nice and helpful - oops just remembered she asked me to email her some pics and info on how they had settled with us

Hope you find some soon.

Hello, I tried to post last night but the poxy broadband was playing up.

Try Chalk Hill Poultry at Tidpit, Martin :

I have read that he is quite reputable. I have been there, but preferred:

She is a smaller enterprise and has very healthy chickens.

Chalk Hill has loads of birds - all sorts so may be able to help.

Thanks everyone for the advice. Sorry for not replying sooner, but just got back from my hols at Les Sables d'Olonne about 30 minutes ago.

I will try to contact some of these and will post where I ended up getting them from.

I got Omlet hens in the end (much grovelling and negotiation!) so didn't visit.

My negotiation skills are obviously not as good as yours. What's the secret? I tested an address literally 2 miles from me which came up as within the delivery range, yet my postcode was outside!

My parents live 2 miles away and are in the delivery zone. I said I'd get it delivered there if I had to and move it myself if necessary. I said I wanted the Omlet package and not just an eglu.

If you PM me with where exactly you are I'll tell you if I think you've got a chance!

Very strange! I told you that I returned from holiday yesterday and had ordered the Eglu to be delivered on the 30th. Well, among all the post and junk mail I had a note scrawled on a piece of lined notepaper saying "Delivery up side house" (sic). No indication of who it was from or what was delivered. Anyway, there was nothing anywhere around the house so we were a little confused. My wife had ordered some furniture for delivery on the 3rd and I had ordered the Eglu to be delivered on 30th and we thought neither would be just left outside. Turned out that a neighbour had seen the big boxes parked outside the back door and dragged them into his garage for safe keeping; it was the Eglu. My daughter was jumping for joy this morning when we dragged the boxes into our garden and unpacked it. I started phoning round to find some hens this morning and it looks like Worldwide Poultry is the only one open today.

No idea what type to get, I didn't realise there were so many to choose from!

Omlet are at the mercy of their couriers, unfortunately. They ship the items out on a 2-3 day service, and this means you will get it either the day Omlet quote, or one working day before.

If Omlet deliver themselves (and I did read your post, so I know you are out of their area) then you get it on the agreed day.
