Tigerlily
I've got my first egg this morning!!! As you can tell I'm very happy! I did the chicken dance around the garden, shouted Mr TL to come and look, then danced around the house!!! It weighed 42g - small, but perfectly formed! I have an inkling it was Mabel who laid it, but all three had gone in the eglu together so it is hard to say! I thought it was a trick egg at first I can't believe how clever my girls are but I've told them they are and they'll get an extra treat today BW x Edited June 24, 2008 by Guest

chucknette
Congratulations! Was it still warm? When I got our first egg and it was still warm I made everyone in the house hold it.

Tigerlily
Thanks everyone! I think i've managed to tell the whole world today about our egg! Alex, our next door neighbour (aged 6!) didn't believe me at first! He loves our girls and was really excited! I didn't get a warm egg - they all had been in the eglu once, came out and there was nothing there when I checked... I left them to it for a while and when I checked they were all out and that's when I discovered it!!! I didn't mind it wasn't warm though! I just can't wait for a 2 egg day and 3 egg will be even better! I'm hoping it won't be long as they have been in the nestbox again today, so I think another one is having a practice! Cooks
I wonder who's it was
Tigerlily
I wonder who's it was I know... I think it was Mabel... but I asked them and Rosie was very vocal so maybe it was her Mabel is the most developed (biggest, reddest comb), but Rosie has been going in the nestbox daily for a week or so... The plot thickens! BW x
Cooks
hmmm!! well as soon as you catch one thats just laid you'll be able to see what colour/shape etc egg they lay and try to decipher who's this was... or you may never know.. I am lucky having two one lays cream one lays light beigy brown eggs.. Sugar laid a 72g cream egg this morning and I didn't even hear her make a noise! Sugar laid a 72g cream egg this morning and I didn't even hear her make a noise! I think Rosie and Mabel's will be similar, Betty being a Bluebelle maybe will have a different colour? With them all being hybrids, it's hard to say... You are lucky knowing who has laid! None of mine made a noise today either! No crowing, nothing! But Rosie was very vocal (they are all quiet chooks usually!) and I did wonder could it be her, but Mabel was in as well... hmmm BW x
Cooks
Sugar sometimes vocalises the fact that Cocoa is in laying though, so it isn't always the one who's the loudest.. they like to keep us on our toes.
Tigerlily
Well I think Sunday and Monday were Mabel's eggs ... Monday night Rosie was trying to lay before going to bed... she was in and out of the nestbox before I went to work today... tonight I came home and there was two beautiful eggs - one weighed 50g one weighed 54g. Not bad considering! I am so proud of my girls They are so clever Now I need my beautiful Betty to start to lay and we will have a hat-trick The pecking issue has certainly settled down as well, so I am really happy now BW x

frenchlayer
it's so good isn't it. Now you just need some detective work to work out which one did it. Good luck
