poachedegg
I thought it would be bushy rather than tall and the leaves are not very big either. Sort of leggy - what did I do wrong?
Egluntyne
Sounds as if it has "bolted". The warm weather can do that to it. Feed it to the hens....they will love it.
Lesley
If you cut it really low but leave the roots in, it should make more growth. As Egluntine says, the hens will love the bits you cut off.
surferdog
Wish I read this sooner! I've just pulled all mine up and fed to the chooks roots and all
chickencam
Spinach is hard to grow once summer comes the best crops are from early spring sowings. It bolts very quickly, if you water it daily you can get away with it sometimes. I have got a row in at the allotment which I am feeling hopeful about. poachedegg
Thanks guys - I have been feeding them to the chickens - that is why I decided to grow them because they like it so much. Got some large leaves initially - but then they just went 'beanstalk' like!!
Christian
My spinach bolted a couple of weeks ago. Luckily I have some seedlings ready to plant out to replace them. The original plants were 2 years old I just used to take a couple of leaves from each plant when I need them. Perpetual spinach is less likely to bolt *he says looking as his bolted perpetual spinach*

Chicken Licken
Cut it right back and feed all the flowers and little leaves to the chooks. I have been doing this for weeks and planted some fresh as well
