I put a peck a block in the run when we got the new girls thinking it might prove a distraction for the big girls - but they (or the new girls) don't seem to realise what it is I,ve tried crumbling bits off and giving it to them but there is no interest whatsoever. Any ideas anyone ?

my lot went mental for it only once it had got wet from the rain!

 

they seemed to prefer it once it was a bit softer. Maybe put it out in the rain and then put it back in?

My hens seemed to find their peckablock not worth all the effort - the seeds are stuck on really well - so I took it out and hung it in a hawthorn tree, and the squirrels scoffed the lot.

If you moisten it a bit, they might get the idea.

Definately try it wet.

 

Dry I find one lasts weeks and weeks, wet about 2 days

I had the same problem - tried sticking their treats on it, wetting it and pulling bits off for about 3 weeks. I then went away for a weekend and came back and a third was gone.

 

After a couple of months they have just finished it - I stuck a new one on the floor yesterday while getting the water and they were all at it.

 

They will get the hang of it with time.

The first block I put in there lasted a week - I think it took them time to realise what it was because now they are gone in a day.

 

Pity really, I wanted something that would last a bit longer than a day...

When I hung a packablock on the side of the run my girls totally ignored it. After a while I decided to take it down and try it on the floor and they loved it.

 

I don't think they realised what it was when it was attached to the run or maybe they just couldn't get their beaks round it properly. When it was on the floor they could hold it down and have a good nibble at it.

 

Good luck with yours. perhaps they just haven't realised what it is yet.

Ours has been hanging for several weeks and is untouched -might try it on the floor then.

same problem here. In the end I broke some bits off, and the girls really liked it. They still wouldn't eat off the peckablock though, so I trried soaking it, and they ate lots of it.

 

They still only eat ot when it's been dampened though.

It worked I put it in a bucket for a short while - its now well and truly pecked Thanks everyone
