Peck a block - still as new!

Recommended Posts

I put a peck a block in the run when we got the new girls thinking it might prove a distraction for the big girls - but they (or the new girls) don't seem to realise what it is :? I,ve tried crumbling bits off and giving it to them but there is no interest whatsoever. Any ideas anyone ?

My hens seemed to find their peckablock not worth all the effort - the seeds are stuck on really well - so I took it out and hung it in a hawthorn tree, and the squirrels scoffed the lot.

I had the same problem - tried sticking their treats on it, wetting it and pulling bits off for about 3 weeks. I then went away for a weekend and came back and a third was gone.

After a couple of months they have just finished it - I stuck a new one on the floor yesterday while getting the water and they were all at it.

They will get the hang of it with time.

When I hung a packablock on the side of the run my girls totally ignored it. After a while I decided to take it down and try it on the floor and they loved it.

I don't think they realised what it was when it was attached to the run or maybe they just couldn't get their beaks round it properly. When it was on the floor they could hold it down and have a good nibble at it.

Good luck with yours. perhaps they just haven't realised what it is yet.

Brenda.
