Flooring in walk-in runs

Hi, pottering around the garden today we found this little fella under one of our large logs, not sure what it is but definately not a newt, looks more like one of the lizard family. It was about three inches long with an orange marking down his back.

Any experts out there no what this gorgeous little blighter is??

Not a newt, it was dry like a toad and not wet looking, also we have no nearby water, pretty sure newts dont live under logs.

Pretty sure its a newt.

We have quite a few in our garden as we have a pond, but like the frogs they only go there to breed. The rest of the time they spend away from the pond usually somewhere moist under stones, in the log pile even had a frog in the greenhouse today.

Hey I think your right found this link on google it looks like our fella. Apparently its a "Palmate Newt" Glad he likes our garden, just hope the girls don't find him or he'll be supper

We have several frogs in our garden at the minute and every so often in the evenings I see one hopping around!

Apparently having frogs in your garden is a sign of you having a very healthy garden. So well done.

We see one or two now and then, we also had a toad living under our green bin..

Don't know if Palmate newts are rarer than common newts, no idea but he is gorgeous.

Yep, a very nice newt. Not as rare as a crested newt but very lovable never-the-less. We have a lot of them in our pond - we have less frogs than we used to, in fact we have hardly any frogs now, but we do have a lot of newts like yours.

 

and they never seem to get p****d. Its a pretty rotton slur on a newt's drinking habits when you come to think of it - I wonder where that came from? Yours looks pretty sober.

Aww, we get loads of them brought in by the cats - I'm always rescuing the little fellas and returning them to the neighbour's pond
