braden01
Having had two lovely chickens via Omlet for over a year now, we'd like to have a third and want an ex-bat. We live in South Herts - does anyone know of any ex-bats in the area for adoption? Thanks!
Tessa the Duchess
I don't think they will allow you to take just one, the minimum is three, but the rules may have changed. I think you would be better off with two or three as introducing just one could be very tricky You would need alternative accommodation for a coupld of months so the ex batts have a chance to get their strength back and be put in with your original chickens. Hope someone else comes along to help. Tessa
braden01
..Thanks for your reply Tessa. They have come back and said they could do only 2 minimum as you said because 1 would be bullied. I only have an eglu and think that 4 in there might be too squashed. We do have a large garden where the chickens free-range for much of the time when we're in the house but from time to time we might be out all day so they'd just in their run. I think I'll have to ask Omlet's advice on whether 4 is too many if we got a run extension? Cheers! Nix
Tessa the Duchess
Four would be fine with a run extension, especially as you say they freerange a lot. The problem is that you could not put the ex-batts straight in with your original chickens, you MUST have some alternate accommodation for them, probably for a month or two, as I said, to give them time to get over their ill treatment and be able to cope with the introductions and the rigours of the pecking order.
