Sleeping in the nest box

Recommended Posts

Hi everyone

Anyone got the same problem? Chooks arrived on Thursday, had to put them to bed on Thursday and Friday but all went to bed on their own last night.

BUT they are sleeping in the nestbox instead of on the bars. Will they eventually move out? I have to keep changing straw as it gets messy by the end of the night.

Any ideas or doesn't it matter?????????

Hello

I've had my girls since April, and am totally new to this too! I found that at first one would sleep in the nest box and of course in the morning it would be messy but that seems to have stopped now.

Sometimes I think they may still sleep in the nest box but now they keep it clean, bless!!

They took a while, but then living with me was new to them too!

Hi everyone

Mine did the same  . I've had mine about six weeks now. I put a bucket in the hole of the nest box each night and remove it in the morning. It seems to fit just right.

I had to do this as it was getting to messy. It seems ok now .

I try to let them free range a liitle on a night, when I get home from work which seems to help. :)

Have had mine a couple of months. They both sleep in the nest box, but I'm not surprised really, where would you choose to sleep!? :? It only takes a minute in the morning to clean out the poo and replace some clean straw so I leave them to it. I blocked the hole once ( I have a cube) but one managed to squeeze over the top of the partition. And who said chickens were stupid!
