Holidays and How to Cope Without Chickens - Advice Needed

Recommended Posts

Ok

On Saturday we go on holiday and have to leave the girls behind (double whammy for me as I also have to leave the forum too!)

We have been able to secure the services of a friend who is going to come and see the girls everyday and clear eggs and check food and water etc.

I mean, we've had the girls for two weeks tomorrow and they have really settled in - and dare I say we love them dearly - they are so much fun!

What were your first experiences of leaving your chooks? And how did you cope!!

Thanks in advance

A

(ps anyone know of any internet cafes in Brighton)

hehehe

Here are a few tips -

1 - Go on holiday with someone you really like - they will distract you from missing the chickens.Loud children also work well. You can borrow mine if you like

2 - Set up a webcam

3 - Get your friend to text you daily photos.

4 - Tape record their clucking & set it as your moblie ring tone

5 - Spend the holiday looking for chicken related things in the shops,or treats for them for your return.

6 - REALLY fill your day with activities (no moping around thinking about the hens!)

OR

6 - Just forget about them & have a fab time :P

You will love & appprectiate them all the more whe you get back

Enjoy your holiday - hope the sun shines a bit :D

I had to leave my girls behind for a week not long after they arrived Andrew. I missed them! I spent the whole week wondering what they were doing, if they were laying eggs, if they'd escaped but MIL looked after them really well and enjoyed the eggs  . Your girls will be fine so have a terrific holiday :D !

Well I have stock piled 8 eggs so far to take with us so I will have something to remind me

Got lots of walks planned along the south downs way and strolling along the beach, meeting old friends that have moved nearby...

I would love to take the girls with us but Caravan Club sites don't approve :(

Joe is dreading that anywhere within reach of the wireless network is near the caravan as he is hoping to have a holiday with me (so someone nice to go with!) and get me off the web - apparently I spend far too much time on here - never!

That's a shame Mo'lly.... We're caravan clubbers too. Do they not even let them on to their CL's :?:

Info for non caravanners - CL = certificated locations - small farm sites which only have 5 vans at a time in a field, lovely and peaceful and good for children to run around :D

Can those words all sit happily in one phrase - children running around and peaceful? Could be a contradiction in terms!

I like the peace and quiet bit - leave the children on a theme park somewhere!!

Someone over the road does it for the eggs. Not sure what she gets out of looking after the cats, however ...

You don't need an internet cafe, just take a wireless laptop and hijack a connection by driving around until you find one.

I babysat someone with no pc on Thurs, and took my laptop, and some neighbour close hadn't encrypted his wireless, so I surfed to my heart;s content.

I will not be taking my laptop on our camping hol in Perran Porth in August, however.

Not allowed.
