Really Annoyed - Payment taken before delivery!!! UPDATED

Recommended Posts

Sorry for the rant, but just checked my credit card balance and found that Omlet have debited over £750 from my credit card more than 3 weeks before my cube was due to arrive :cry:

Wouldn't mind but when I ordered, they assured me they would not take any money until the day before delivery!!

Really upset as I now have to pay for this a month earlier than I was expecting too and won't have enough money for our holiday now :cry:

Thanks for getting back to me so quickly Eglutine,

I thought it was unusual, but was begininning to think that I had perhaps misunderstood her on the phone and got the dates wrong or something!

Wouldn't mind but I had promised my OH that we wouldnt have to settle up until the end of August!

I will give them a ring in the morning and see what is happening -

Good luck I would be interested to know what happens.

~Hope it turns out ok for you :!:

Yes, that seems unusual for them. I wonder if you will be getting an unexpected early delivery tomorrow? And how your OH would feel about that?

My own experience over the past 6 weeks with Omlet has been that they are trying really hard but are absolutely swamped with orders and support calls. They have gotten very simple orders (3 cube wind shades, for instance) terribly wrong; their delivery company has let them down so many times, I won't bore you with the details; and now this very odd charging with you.

Yes, please do phone and find out. I think they are just overwhelmed with the growth of interest in chicken keeping over the past year -- I think they say they have 3x's the orders this year than last. That kind of growth can throw cogs into even the best company's machine.

They have increased their business threefold apparently, but don't seem to have increased their office staff accordingly. Big mistake.

Here is a screenshot of the payment form.

It clearly says payment will not be taken until the day the item is due to be shipped.

They did exactly the same to me when I ordered my second Cube: the money was taken out instantly. But of course I didn't find out instantly, and by the time I realized what had happened it was so near delivery time it wasn't worth arguing.

Omlet's office practices need tightening up. I was half expecing the money to be taken again when the Cube arrived, but they weren't that careless.

When the money is taken immediately, it not only creates a cash-flow problem, but presumably lessens the insurance time provided by a credit card purchase.

UPDATE

Just phoned and spoke to a lovely girl called Chloe, she said it was a mistake and is going to put through the refund, however, my statement is issued by my credit card company today and they can't be sure it will arrive in time to cancel out the payment on this months credit card bill :cry:

I asked about the possibility of leaving the payment and getting an earlier delivery and she said there was no way, all the vans are fully booked

Oh well, fingers crossed the credit goes through in time, if not we are going to have a cash strapped holiday - will update tommorow when I have checked my statement.

Are you able to check your credit card balance online?

The credit may well not show on your latest statement, but could have arrived in your account.

Hi Claret,

Yes I can check online, I have just checked again and the credit is not showing yet, so it looks like it doesn't show on the statement until the following day. Just hope it's in time as my billing day is today! Fingers crossed

Having had the AA take money from my account when the membership had been cancaelled (hate to say tha tesco offered a better package for much less), and then chasing the refund for a couple of months, when they finally actioned it , it took 10 days to show on my account! Which is most annoying, as I had to pay for an item I did not want or need! :x

Let's face it, sometimes things go wrong - and I don't think it's a common occurrence with Omlet. Unfortunately it's the nature of things that people who've had a problem start a thread tol post about it, whereas people who haven't had a problem don't.

I've had a Cube and an Eglu, and they have taken payment on despatch both times, without any issues.
