i have ordered my chooks.

Recommended Posts

:D we went to see some this afternoon and can pick tehm up next Sat, the place was wonderful, and all the hens looked liked they lived the way I intend to keep them.

We are having

A white star

A light Sussex

A black Rock

And a brown henny type hen.

Also have on order for a black silkie and a bluebelle although they are currently only 8 weeks old, said we could have them at 12 and they would be ok with the others.

I am so excited.

they are POL, I thought that as well but the lady asured me they would be ok, I could however get another 2 off the breeds we are already gettinbg on Sat as I don't really like the idea of introducing them later anywasy.

We will have to see at the time, If we couldn't introdue them when young, would we be able to introduce them at POL or do they all have to be the same age?

sorry I replied to pm but forget to update this thread, I have now decided against the young un's, hanks for the advcie. I asm either going to double up on 2 of the breeds w have already chosen or I am going to try and get a speckedly and a bluebelle from Storrs poultry.

Eglutine we are getting then from raw green, I loved the place, although someone has bought the last bluebelles :D .

I can't decide which option is best now.

I can not get chickens off my mind at the moment I think I am going a we bit chook mad. My mums neighbours have some chooks in an ark, they were out today so I snuck int0 their garden to have a peek, they are lovely.

I'm glad you've decided against the younger ones. It could have been very tricky.

When you have more experience of henkeeping, and extra accommodation, etc you would be able to manage it, but it would have been very upsetting for you if things had gone wrong at this stage.

Raw Green is super isn't it. Such lovely enthusiastic people too.

Good luck.

I definatley think reading everything that young chooks are for the experienced, and i want them to be safe and happy. I was so impressed with raw green and all the hens looked so lovely and tame and well handled, the lady was lovely and spent ages with us answering all our inane questions, I really can't actually wait now.

So would you double up on 2 of the breeds or go to Storrs and get a speckedly and a blueblle, have you got any experience of Storrs?

Either.....if you can get them from Storrs at the same age and on the same day and you really fancy a variety of hens then I'd go to Storrs for the other two.

Give them a ring to find out what is available.

I have been there with a friend, but have never bought hens from them myself. It is bigger, and less personal, but very professionally run.

Chocchick gets her hens from there and they are all lovely.

If you do go to Storrs...it is down a long narrow muddy track. Don't take the Rolls.

It is like an off road experience. :D

Oh god I know we have been once already, one of the reasons I was quite glad to find somewhere else as I am not sure the car or my nerves wuill take it again.

I think I will probably go to both, on the same journey as they are so close together, will go to raw green first as I would feel a bit naughty going to storrs first, don't know why just doesn't feel very polite.

The ones at Raw green do look slightly smaller than the ones I have seen at storrs so although they are POL I wonder if they are a bit younger, would this be a problem.
