arwenskye
I have a green cube and am wondering-do I have to show them the nesting area? they haven't ventured into that area yet, despite me putting shredded paper for their comfort thanks Karen
HelenR
Two of my chooks started laying two weeks ago and apart from the first egg which was laid in the run, all the others have been laid in the nest box.. They free range for most of the day but still pop back into the eglu to lay the eggs in the nest box - I am amazed that they know where to do it but they do! Purplemaniacs
Three of our four seem to know where to lay, except for Ebony who always lays on the roosting bars. We have tried the fake eggs in the nest box to give her a clue but she seems to prefer the bars, sometimes the egg drops through into the poo tray. She had now laid almost 80 eggs on the bars so I don't think we will ever change her but we are getting a cube soon so it will be interesting to see where she lays then Chrissie
Hen Watch
Mine lay their eggs in the nest box and have done since the day they started to lay. I've only had 2 softies in the garden (that caught them by surprise) and 2 in the run, in 15months of chicken keeping.
Ain't Nobody Here
Our first eggs were in the run, all the others have been in the nestbox - they are clever little things, really!
frenchtoast
Our Peggy has just laid her 2nd egg, clever girl, but both have been randomly on the grass! She has watched the other 2 girls disappear into the eglu for half an hour at a time and has even sat outside the door looking in. She goes in, sits in the nest for about 15mins then comes out a bit bandy legged and then I find an egg elsewhere! She's really trying but hasn't quite got her timing right I suppose! Maybe today... Mutrix Farmers
Our first eggs were in the run, all the others have been in the nestbox - they are clever little things, really! Ditto, although we sometimes get one laid on the roosting bars

frenchtoast
Peggy's third egg on the grass and cracked I imagine it's still edible? Only just laid and cracked when it landed!
Lynn
Beatrix who is our Araucana and should have been named Road Runner as she never sits still, lays her eggs all over the place Just last Saturday I picked an egg up from the lawn, another day it was in the bushes. I don't even think she sat down to lay them, just carried on as normal
