frenchtoast
Hi there, How long would you say a peck-a-block could last if 3 chickens have to be confined to their run for a week? Just estimating how many for my first order. thanks
Olly
I have had one since March with four chickens, and they have just finished it off. It does depend on the weather though ... when it rains, it softens and they scoff it up! when it's dry it's a bit harder and they don't peck at it so much. I'd guess at more than a week ... but someone else has probably got a different experience.
Yolky
ohhh *adds to list* My children seem to keep the girls entertained but when we are away I am worried the girls won't have 'kid TV' and so want to give them things to keep them occupied. I have already pursuaded the husband to come home a day early and I am working on leaving a day later so I don;t have to leave them for so long
Ain't Nobody Here
I'm glad you asked this . I was hesitating buying some because they're quite pricey but if they last for ages I might go ahead!
Cinnamon
One thing to be aware of is that they are heavy,so some companys charge a lot for P&P. Ascotts have a set delivery fee of £5.95,for which I had 4 peckas & a big tub of grit (heavy too) sent

MadMitch
I have 6 chickens and it lasts no more than two days with mine. I get the wild birdseed bells from pets at home.

TAJ
I had one for when we went on holiday - even confined for most of a week it lasted a good 6 weeks. The last one is only ½ eaten and been in there about a month I guess. Tracy

TAJ
I think we are talking about very different products here - pet at home ones are tiny for caged birds. When we talk about a pecka-block last weeks we are talking about theses ones: http://www.flytesofancy.co.uk/acatalog/Pecka_Block.html they weigh 750g are as solid as a brick and designed for chickens. frenchtoast
I think we are talking about very different products here - pet at home ones are tiny for caged birds Just picturing a few budgies in the run. Looks like it's peck-a-blocks for holiday fun. I thought they must be quite big for the price and postage. Thanks again for all the advice. I've already spent so much this morning buying a run converter and foolishly added on extras while the P&P stayed at the same rate. I'm justifying it on welfare grounds A week's holiday? duh ...I think I'll move into the run and the chickens can go off to the seaside! TAJ
Yes I buy from Flyes of Fancy - they are always very efficient and delivered very quickly. They are also very cheap for egg boxes. Tracy

Egluntyne
Why not google them Debbie and check the P&P out for yourself. There are many sites which sell them and the prices and P&P vary astonishingly.
Guest
I think we are talking about very different products here - pet at home ones are tiny for caged birds. ...... They also have large ones for garden birds, it lasted a while but I kept helping them breaks chunks off see it here http://www.liverpoolpoet.talktalk.net/peckbell.jpg
Troy
Yes! I did order from Flyte so fancy. At first I though their P&P was pricey but then realised that some other sites that sold the blocks for less had in turn much higher carriage costs!
