Electricbarbarella
and the girls are going mental throwing it everywhere and rolling around, digging holes and lying in them, it is so lovely. I may sprinkle some in the poo trays it seems so clean and fresh.
Yolky
I have hemcore (but it is almost the same) and I love it (so to the chickens lol) sooooooooooo easy to pick poo from it and the smells are gone. Glad you went for it too and your chickens like it. I threw in some mixed corn this afternoon and they have had great fun scratching about for it
Egluntyne
It is fab. Don't forget to put a cover on your run though...otherwise it will soak up every drop of rain.
Electricbarbarella
have a shower curtain over the run, is it worth sprinkling a bit in the poo trays as well?
Yolky
I did and this morning I got no poo smells on peering in the egg port
Electricbarbarella
why were you peering into the egg port? you haven't have you?
Egluntyne
is it worth sprinkling a bit in the poo trays as well? Definitely. Absorbs pongs .
alison
I have put newspaper in my poo trays, which seems to pop up runny poos, but will try some aubiose tomorrow. I put the newspaper and poos in my green wheelie bin for garden waste, is this okay?
Yolky
why were you peering into the egg port? you haven't have you? None yet but I live in hope
Electricbarbarella
where has all the poo actually gone? the run appears to have no poo in it and doesn't smell at all, considering I know how much poo there should be I am most intrigued. Yolky
You need to do what I do, when they go to bed or are free ranging I rake all the auboise to the door of the run and I get a cat pooper scooper and sift though, it is amazing how much you find, you can't believe how hidden they are. It is real satisfaction when you get a bucket full of poo (kiddies bucket) and then rake back the clean hemcore. My run is so clean now, I am loving it! Electricbarbarella
thats cool, and I am guessing it no longer needs to be done daily.
Yolky
I have to say that I have been doing it daily but I don't think that is necessarily needed lol. The weather has been nice and I have been in the garden so thought that it would be nice to keep it fresh. It doesn't really take long at all I have to say. Also I think if I do it when I can if something happens which means I can't do it for a night or two it wouldn't be too bad. I think I have read on other threads that some people poo pick twice a week. How are your girls? Any sign of eggs yet?
Electricbarbarella
No sign at all and I am going on holiday in 1 1/2 weeks so i know they will lay thn, I just know it. How about yours?
Yolky
my is crouching so maybe soon *hopes* I am off on me jollys in two weeks to so if she is going to lay soon I would love it to be before we are off. I think the GNRs will be a bit longer though as they do look younger. It is so exciting though isn't it
Phosphorus
I love aubiose - wouldn't move to anything else now Not so kean on the price though - it has just gone up my way Put it in the poo trays, nesting box - everywhere. Works a treat
Electricbarbarella
stupid question but how do you get it not to fall out of the nesting box.
Phosphorus
I thought that to start with but it actually works quite well I put it in carefully in handfulls over the hole/slit and then pile it on top. Once it is covered and has a second layer it tends to stay like that - unless of course Charlotte is in a particular vigorous mood that day and then you can watch it being kicked out through the gap
alison
EB, I was wondering the same! Alison
Yolky
I still use straw in the nest box but then mine aren't laying yet so may change my mind in future. I do like the look of the straw.
calinz
Hi, have just picked up this topic, can i ask please does easibed do same job as aubiose? my local place stocks easibed so would be very useful cheers
alison
I use shredded paper in the nesting box, it is so easy to roll up every morning enclosing all the poo! I have loads as we shred lots of bills letters etc, so costs nothing
Diana1
I've just put aubiose in my run. This is the eglu run and surrounding extra run which is not covered by anything. What will happen in the rain? I think aubiose is great stuff - looks so fresh like a new fall of snow.
mayflower
I love aubiose and so do my hens. I also line the nest box with a few pages of a newspaper then the aubiose. Next day, I just roll up the newspaper with the aubiose inside and dispose. I also sprinkle the aubiose with chicken grit and oyster shell so that, when they scratch around they will find something interesting!
