gazpachodragon
i know there's a few threads on here about converting sheds but... my nephew just got this playhouse and he can't stand it. so my sister said we could replace it with something he'd actually go into without screaming blue murder, and we could have this for the chickens we're planning on getting. question is, can we convert it? we're going to have a large walk in enclosure (around 12ftx6ft) to put it in, and they'll get to free range as well, so it's just the mechanics of making it secure for sleeping and what we'd need to put in by way of nesting boxes etc.
Helen&Lee
If you wander (briefly ) over to the Practical Poultry forum, I'm sure there was a post about converting a plastic playhouse/shed... Ahh, here it is. http://kelseyinfo.co.uk/yabb/YaBB.pl?num=1213671378 It doesn't offer too much advice on the modifications - just it's suitability. gazpachodragon
thank you muchly - i did have a look on , but obviously not hard enough! looks like it might not be the best idea...perhaps the dogs would love a wendy house to play in
Egluntyne
I would have concerns about temperature. Opinions vary on the thread to which a link is posted, but I would agree that you would have to ensure that it would be warm enough in winter in particular. Your run would need to be very secure too, as I doubt that you would be able to make the play house as safe as the Eglu.
Electricbarbarella
hi someone on the other forum which I saw you on earlier converted a playhouse recently and there is a thread with pictures. It was a wooden one though. I was joking with my mum about turning my dd's little tkyes house into the done laying retirement village (although they haven't started laying yet so I may be planning ahead a little too much.) Chickens@61
we converted a play house for our chickens, but it was wooden so different issues to the temperature debate..
mrsm_jones
Ha ha ha! Chickens@61! I've just converted the same wendy house as you! My B&Q end-of-line bargain!
gazpachodragon
chickens that's fab! your hens must think they've got a palace! i think the temperature thing is going to be too much of a variable for us as newly fledged chicken keepers, so we'll be passing it up this time. no doubt the playhouse will end up at the bottom of my mum's garden, so we can always pick it up if necessary. Lewis
My coop is a wooden wendy house, and the run is an old climbing frame we already had at the top of the garden.
