I have a "friend" who never cooks as it messes up her state of the art kitchen.

She has an Aga which she polishes, but it has never been used...so, yes I can believe it! :D

One of our staff, we have a restaurant, has a cooker that she has NEVER used. I mean it. She buys takeaways EVERYDAY!. She then complains about price of food!. She is on benifits, still has to cook for her family, only 20 years married. We have tried to explain how easy it is to COOK, and how cost effective, no way, too much mess and trouble. What really annoys me is that she complains all the time about price yet has to learn that I pay gas and leccy and time to cook her food. The mess thing gets to me. Her home is spotless, mine is not. OK I admit it ,I have dust bunnies! My restaurant kitchen is germ free.I may be wrong here, I think she is just lazy!. I would love to have a spotless oven, clean grids on the hob at home. No way. I cook and am proud of my culinary skills. I make a mess, clean up, and can make a gourmet meal for 12(big family) for about £30. I learnt the hard way first married that a shin of beef goes a long long way. Many years later, no financial probs, shin of beef is my favorite cut, so tasty. Memories perhaps? My home kitchen is my favorite place, it is whacky and fun. I have got 2 ducklings brooding there at the moment, not for cooking!. I love the way my 3 kids or their partners phone to ask if I am cooking cos they love my food.Sorry gone a bit long and off topic there. Just love my food and cooking it :D

I know this may be going slightly off topic, but I do wonder if the "not cooking as much" is partly a generation thing.

I personally think that as a child, I didnt spend any time in the kitchen with my mother being shown how to cook "traditionally" but she probably wasn't either as my nan was a "working" mother during and after the war years.

Also, after working all day long and then collecting the children, I am often too worn out to cook. I know some things are quick and easy, but some take ages to prepare.

I have 2 children who are autistic. And because of this I like to tried to make sure they eat healthy, but most of my time is spent trying to make them eat something.

I tried to make stew from scratch - but it took me over an hour just to prepare the vegetables from scratch - and then the kids wouldn't touch it.

I do enjoy cooking, which is one of the reasons I got a few chickens to start with - so I could have a few eggs on tap for baking. Then I grow my own organic vegetables and herbs -but I only tend to make herby omlet and veg at the moment :oops:

But the programme gave me inspiration to start cooking more - 2 attempts at american style lemon meringue went pear shaped but I am determined to get it right!

it was a bit odd that she claims never to have cooked before, but nearly all her meals seemed quite good and technical in some way or other. to be honest i wanted andy to win. also did you see richard and judy when they interviewed them and mark said that there was more to him storming off than was actually shown!!!
