jules.chuck
I'v emanaged to train the eldest son to let the chickens out every day. every day he returns to the house I ask him have you any eggs ! But still no Egg So I have put a ceramic egg in to fool them into thinking this is what one should look like It must be close because they are now sitting down regularly and Henny Penny has now got a red comb ! I just can't wait.... I just want to try my first egg soon In the mean time I wait .... I might just go and check again Any ideas how I keep my patience

mrsallen08
Hiya I am waiting for my girls to start laying! I havent bought any eggs for 2 weeks now in protest but they are not getting the hint! How old are yours? My 3 RIRs are 22 weeks now! They have the red combs and seem to be sitting a lot but nothing, not even a softie!!! We wondered if they didnt like their nest box (wooden coop) so I have added a washing up bowl with lots of straw in to see if they would sooner lay there... and I wait! If I am still waiting next week I am going to put an egg timer in there! Good Luck! I voted for the roaster tin!
edward.chicken
My dad is making me do the chickens every day !! Still no eggs yet but I keep my fingurs crossed just in case. Any ideas of how I can get the eggs any quicker as my dad wants one for his breakfast
Kazoo
Mine are about 24 weeks and one has laid an egg - what a moment that was!!!! You'll get them, give them slugs and a few raisins, sit back with that cold glass of wine and you'll be deciding what to add to an omelette in no time. mrsallen08
Thanks Kazoo! I am so glad you're ladies are 'late developers!' They have had a few fat worms today whilst ive been weeding. I have made them a super private nest box with 3 different laying boxes today as well so there really is no excuses for no eggs! We clipped their wings today also and checked for lice, clean bums etc (and cockrel bits! you never can be sure!) So I know they are clean, healthy (and girls!) so lets cross our fingers...and pray.... and make a wish... for a big fat egg soon!

jules.chuck
As they say one egg does not make a omlet I am looking forward to my next one even more It just shows that if you drink enough beer anything is possible I gave my chicks some extra treats (cooked beans) as extra reward. I just can't wait for the next one. I am sure your little girls will perform soon

Ms Marple
Just thought I'd add my gripes to this - ours aren;t laying yet either. My gingernut is nearly 24 weeks and the other two are 19 or 20 weeks.
jules.chuck
sorry to hear that. It should be soon. I thought mine were cockerals !! Now I know they are chickens The beer helps .... be patient and they will arrive...eventually
Ms Marple
Well another week has passed and still no eggs According to the breeder my gingernut is now 25 weeks and the other two are 20 weeks, They eat well, seem very healthy and assertive although I have my doubts about George Harrison - she(he) doesn't crow but does seem to be very bossy and has a bit of a 'manly' strut.. Should or be worried or continue to be patient?? I was hoping there would be an egg or two before I go back to shcool in ten days....... The builders are creating lots of noise and mess but I don't think its affecting the girls- in fact I rather think they like inspecting the progress when they are out and about. Lots of new earth to scrabble around in.
mrsallen08
Another week for me too Ms Marple. Its soooo painfully annoying! Hopefully they are saving a big 'un for weekend brekkie! (I live in hope)
