kannie
Just read an article in yesterday's Guardian: Joanna Blythman says that it's not wild birds that are spreading H5N1 - its a result of intensive farming and is spread by this industry. Interesting. Reproduced here: http://www.guardian.co.uk/birdflu/story/0,,1791954,00.html
Sheilaz
Thanks, Christine (lovely to have met you!), that made really interesting reading. Makes a lot more sense than the usual version put out by media hysterical speculation, doesn't it? Thanks for putting it on here.
kannie
It was good to meet you too! Such a shame you cant make the official get together - still I imagine we'll meet up again at some point!
Sheilaz
I'm sure! Meanwhile, I have some more info. to challenge scaremongers, although I try to avoid them altogether!.
Mel (& Paul)
If you cant avoid them, just shut your eyes, stick your fingers in your ears and sing "la lallllaaalllaaalala - I cant hear you - la lalalllaaalalala!" It works everytime
ubereglu
I know, I'm sure I've read that somewhere before actually.
The Dogmother
Brilliant! Isn't that what we've been banging on about for ages?
buffie
Yes it's true the welfare and housing of the laying hen in other countries needs some serious work and that's the way to prevent this. Again not supporting cheap imports through our shopping baskets is a way to let them know what we want. BBx
The Dogmother
I know it's preaching to the converted Buff, but would it be in order to have a BHWT/Omlet branded handout at the August do about voting with your trolley? We all know about it, but they might pass it on to others who are less enlightened.
kannie
Was it my sleepy imagination or did anyone else hear something about salmonella in eggs on the news this morning? Would have been either radio 4 or bbc breakfast telly...
Sheilaz
Yes, Christine. It's about the large proportion of European eggs that contain salmonella. Gist of it, we shouldn't import these eggs for our food production, until rest of Europe has our high standards! It was in praise of British eggs and condemning salmonella imports. Still, funny how some things suddenly become news at a certain time...
