Guest
I like a bit of this me-sen... Mmmmmmm........ (did you know: Old Speckled Hen was originally brewed to commemorate the 50th anniversary of MG and was named after an old, paint-spattered factory car known locally as the "owd speckled 'un". The name over time became “Old Speckled Hen”….and the rest is history!) not a lot of people know that! Phil

Guest
One day, Martin, you'll discover that it is a very fine ale indeed (but not at its best out of a bottle..) Phil
Sheilaz
not a lot of people know that! Phil I didn't know that, so I was pleased to find out. I can add it to my collection of beer name stories. I have 2 now!
Guest
What's the other one Sheila? Gone for a Burton?
Sheilaz
No, it's one I discovered when I went for a lunchtime drink with LSH a few weeks ago. I posted it on another (beery) thread, but here goes; We had a pint of Black Sheep. It's brewed by a member of another brewing family, who left the original company to start his own. Hence Black Sheep of the family. It was something to do with John Smith & Sam Smith I think. Well, I never knew that! Please don't ever let me tell jokes, I always get confused by the punchline. But, it was something like that. PS. Can't think of anymore chook names, but sheep are
Guest
Here's another one for you Sheila.. Dead Guy Ale (a Murican ale) was named for the Mayan Day of the Dead, 1 Nov, All Souls Day, I think. It was invented in a Mexican restaraunt in Oregon. Last time I looked you can buy it bottled in Safeways. this could be a great thread - come on guys -0 wheel out your "stories behind the beer-name" - It'd be very interesting.... me - I like a pint of Bishop's Finger (AKA "Nun's Delight" in some places...) - there must be a story behind that!! Sheilaz
Well, I never knew that! Good old Shepherd Neame, that's a favourite (& follows the included sheep theme). As for Dead Guys Ale. That's a new one on me! Weird. Will look out in Morrison's when I go to ballet. Mmmmm. Great thread. Although bottled beer is only for when pub is inaccessible.
