Mrs Frugal
I don't know how this works but it's seriously spooky! http://www.milaadesign.com/wizardy.html Follow the prompts and be amazed !!
Guest
if you pick ANY 2-digit number, add the digits and subtract from the original number then you will get a number from the 9x table if you look at the table of symbols from which you choose - all the 9x numbers - 9, 18, 27, 36, 45, 54 etc... have the same symbol.. so.. it's not really guessing your symbol at all! (it's quite clever because it changes the symbols each time so you don't keep getting the same ones!) Many mathematical tricks are based on the number 9 because it has such fantastic and mysterious properties... Phil (Mr Mephisto!)

Mrs Frugal
Oooo thanks Phil ! Thought there must be something ordinary behind it! I did try staring at the symbols without picking a number at all and that confused it !

Guest
the beauty of tricks like this is that it isn't at all dependant on what you do - even if you didn't pick a number and stared out of the window instead of at the symbols - it would still get the answer right - becasue it has chosen your answer for you automatically - it looks like you have a choice, but you don't... (that sounds spookily like what politicians mean when they talk about "choice!!") it's very much like the elephant in Denmark trick...
