Brooding hen has chicks in nesting box

make the cube the same shape as an eglu? A giant eglu on wheels? I love the shape of the eglu but have finallt succumbed to a cube as needs must.

 

My two eglu approach isn't working as all 10 hens squash together in one eglu and lay their eggs there too. A redundant purple eglu has made me rethink . . . a cube is needed. I'm off to see Sootem's tomorrow and I hope I'll feel differently tomorrow.

That would be great. Because the original Eglu is a dome shape and has no corners like the square shape of the Cube it most likely would be more roomy. Kind of like the new VW Beetle. Looks small on the outside, but un expectedly roomy on the inside.

No access from the back for cleaning though.

 

You would have to stand on a ladder to lift the top off and it would weigh a ton.

 

In fact you would have to use a block and tackle.

I had the same dilemma as you. We had the 2 eglus and at night we had 3 hens go in one leaving 1 in the other - so we decided to get the cube out of conveniece rather than really wanting one.

 

We dont like our cube, its too big and cumbersome. Not aswell designed as the eglu IMO. I love the sleek style of the eglu, the cube has gaps and little design flaws that niggle me.

 

I agree with Eglutine though - it might be your cup of tea and would be well worth your while viewing one before buying.

Well i've been to see Sootem's green cube today and have placed an order for a purple one. It was much better than I thought BUT I still love the eglu!

I must admit that it was the Eglu's shape which drew my attention to Omlets website way before i even read about its plus points when i Googled 'chicken coop'.Agreed,the Cube is more practicle and spacious so is best for a growing flock,but its shape isnt as inspiring.

I still miss the eglu in my garden as it looked so nice It may not look quite as nice, but I wouldn't be without my cube now though. It really is so much easier to use.
