Patridge bantam chicken poorly foot?

Title says it all really Just wondered where everyone get its their copies from as I haven't been able to find it yet, is it the only Poultry mag thats around or are there any others that are good?

W H Smith always has it but I got my last copy in Sainsburys! Very handy picking it up with the shopping. They don't seem to have this month's yet though so means a trip into town.

I ordered a couple of back dated copies on the internet. I assume you would be able to get a subscription over the internet. I've never seen it sold in newsagent anywhere.

You may find it in big branches of WHSmiths. I'm sure I've seen it on the shelves there but I ended up subscribing as it's not so easy to find in a small town. Practical Poultry Subscription page It's a good magazine with loads of information .

I've tried our local WH Smiths several times and they have never stocked it.Odd though considering theres an awful lot of small holders round here.

 

ps.Im reluctant to take out a subscription until i've actually read a copy!

I get mine at the local estate supplies place where I also get layers pellets, hemcore, mixed grain etc. They also sell Country Smallholder, which is quite good, but I think is the best mag for chicken owners.

That's odd ours always has loads (and Basingstoke isn't exactly a hot bed of chicken keepers....) Might be worth posting a wanted ad on the forum? Someone might have an old one they can pass along to you.

I get mine from the local horsey shops ( I live in a very rural area!) where I can also get my Country Kitchen magazine as well as layers mash and corn etc. etc.

The cover price is £3.10 but I bought a back copy online first (a little more for that £3.60 inc post) and found I liked it.

 

In my opinion it is half for poultry/show types articles and half practical info on housing, rats, illnesses, general advice and has a feature breed each month. I've found really useful articles on if ACV is worth it, droppings explained etc.

 

I now have an online subscription. 12 for price of 11 so you are paying £2.84 for copies - delivered in the post. I got the September issue in the post last week and I keep all my back copies as a reference library.

I have contacted Practical Poultry and tesco's to see if they can do a subscription deal using clubcard vouchers ! they have other specialist stuff on there to subscribe to. I received a reply from both parties involved who said they would look into it.

Yep, I got mine in Smiths. I'm glad you're all reading it too and not just farmers, my kids think it's hilarious that I buy that instead of OK!

I'm going to pop to countrywide tomorrow and look for a copy there, must try hard not to buy too many other things, hubby won't be happy! I told sister in law I went in search of it in Tesco today (before posting on here!) and she told me I was sad but I'm sure if she gets chooks she will be the same, hehe. I was given 2 mags today from someone which has some poultry info in which I have already read tonight

My local newsagent sells it! In fairness it is a really good newsagent and has allsorts of magazines to embarass your children with! Practical Poultry, Horse & Hound, Loads on steamtrains too randomly!

I'm really enjoying reading up about chickens, there's a lot I didn't know. I've ordered stuff on-line and I was very excited yesterday when various mite powders and food arrived, now that's sad! If I found a shop locally to get stuff I'm sure the trolly would be full!

Well after I couldn't wait any longer than 12noon I had to take an early lunch to take a trip to Countrywide and guess what, they didn't have it, booooo, I asked and she said they don't normally stock it! wasn't a wasted trip though, I bought them a bowl for treats and I got some garlic flakes, will go in search of mag tomorrow, might try WH Smiths not sure ours in Redditch will do it though or I might take a trip to the domestic fowl trust.

I have bought it for the last three months from Smiths. They do run out towards the end of the month though. I also bought from Smiths a book called 'Avoiding the Vet' which is issued by Practical Poultry (it was on the shelf next to the monthly mag) which has been invaluable - answering loads of my questions on health, habits and feeding. It is well worth the £6.95 I paid.

Hi kayandrob, I live in Stourbridge, and if you can manage to get to Merry Hill, Smiths definately sell it there cos thats where I get it from. They do run out towards the end of the month tho.
