kayandrob
What and where are Hackle Feathers? I have seen a few posts recently saying check the hackle feathers but I haven't a clue where they are on a chicken? (as you can tell I still have loads to learn!) karlotta
I'm not sure, but I assumed that they are in the same place as hackles on a dog.... ie. the ones that are on the join between neck and body?
moomin
I think this is where they are - from when I posted about my chook Skye when I thought she was a bloke! They are on the back of the neck and they are pointy if he's a boy and rounded if she's a girl
Nuggywoo
What and where are Hackle Feathers? The best way to describe them is 'like a cape'. They're the ones that stand away from his/her neck when they have a 'fluff'. (I've been trying to catch my cockerel showing off but to no avail )
kayandrob
ok thanks for the replies, I was just curious as I am picking up our chickens on Saturday so wondered if it was worth me understanding more what hackle feathers are
