Limestone Flour

Recommended Posts

I'm sorry of this has been asked before but I can't find it.

My limstone flour arrived from Ebay yesterday and I'm not sure how much to put in the Grub - can anyone advise please?

Also - it arrived in a plastic bag which I promptly dropped at my Granmothers (she gets my deliveries as I'm usually out). The bag split and honestly it looked like a drugs stash siezed and I could see the look in her 95 year old eyes registering that she saw something similar on the telly :lol:

As the pellets have calcium in already, I use about 1/3 teaspoon in porridge (I make up a good cereal bowl - about 3 cups) and a sprinkle of ground baked egg shells.

There has been a thread recently about putting too much calcium in is actually bad for the chickens, something to do with joints and deformities (Egluntine would know more)

I give mine only every few days for this reason Mutrix Farmers, they have grit and oyster shell to pick at ad lib and as you say, the pellets contain calcium already. I just ry to make sure my Babs the softie layer gets a helping hand every few days as she often feels rotten with softies (Which happens more when i don't give the extra calcium)

Mine arrived from ebay exactly the same. Imagine my panic when I realised that it was open on the kitchen table whilst I was talking to a WPC about an incident that had happened in the street. I know she saw it - I could see her looking at the table but only realised after she left what she was looking at.

I'm expecting a police raid any minute :lol:

When my OH was living in staff accommodation at the local hospital many moons ago, he came home to find their had been a police search on the whole block of flats and that his jam jar full of bicarbonate of soda had been confiscated by the police!!!

hmmm - I've just been to the local reptile place and bought what is apparently a bag of limestone flour, but I must admit I am not convinced .... you are all talking about 'white power'. What I have got is a fine grey grit..... doesn;t sound like I have been sold the correct stuff :?

Mine have access to grit and oystershell in seperate grubs, plus good quality pellets, and all bar one of them lay eggs with shells as hard as bullets. Carmen's shells are so thin however that they are generally cracked when I collect them, I guess from where they have landed in the (lined) nesting box. Not sure how else to help her - I am paranoid that one of these days she will have one break in her.
