Mumsvoice
had my chooks for a couple of weeks now and thought that they were very happy. Let them out round the garden 2 days ago for their first free range but as in work all day yesterday they had to stey in the eglu run. Willows tail was a bit droopy this morning (my gingernut) but otherwise she seems fine. I let her out to free range. She seemed to be happier and her tail did seem to perk up but after about 15 mins she settled under a bush and closed her eyes. She then perked up again and did everything to avoid going back into the eglu run. sould i worry about the droopy tail (or was she just wanting out) or the sleeping (or was she just resting?) thanks
Chicken Licken
I think it's probably quite usual - they do put their tails down especially if they are snoozing or resting. It can also be a sign of a softy on the way and this could well be the case if she is new to laying or just coming into lay. If all else is okay I wouldn't worry too much. Christian
If she isn't laying yet, she might be preparing for it or has a soft shelled egg on the way. They can appear really unwell when they lay a softie. Just keep an eye on her and make sure she is eating and drinking.
