quickcluck
I put equal amount of pellets and bokashi in the grub and they get a small amount in the afternoons as they just love it... but am I overdoing it?
Guest
i'm guessing it doesn't have instructions on the bag then? the info in the omlet shop here http://www.omlet.co.uk/shop/shop.php?cat=Feed&sub=Chicken%20food&product_id=190 says it should be added at the rate of 5% so if you're doing 50% that would seem far too much. they really should be getting the bulk of their food from mash/pellets as that has all the nutrition they need, bokashi is an extra. I'm suprised they haven't got the squits if they've been eating that much!
quickcluck
Thanks for that! I am very new to this... there seems to be sooooooooooooooo much to learn and remember, and you really dont want to do anything to harm them.... Does anyone know about the probiotic yoghurt? when/why do you give this?? Do you mean like Actimel?
Guest
i use onken biopot and just give it maybe once a week mushed up into some seeded batch bread or granary bread as their afternoon treat. the probiotics (good bacteria) is helpful for their gut flora but your bokashi is probiotic so you don't really need to give them yoghurt as well but i guess it wouldn't do any harm, in moderation. Egluntyne
I once dropped a dishful of bokashi and they hoovered it up in nanoseconds. They didn't come to any harm but I wouldn't give them a 50/50 mix. For one thing it will cost you a fortune and it might interfere with them getting adequate nutrition from the pellets. Re probiotic yoghurt, it also has beneficial bacteria, particularly useful for keeping the crop in good order. I just give an unsweetened bog standard variety.
