Eglus vs Cubes - fors and againsts!

Recommended Posts

I love my Cube. I loved the Eglu too, but I have arthritis and I used to struggle to lift the top off to clean it, I find the Cube much easier as I don't have to bend down to do anything (same point that Hellywelly made).

I have my Cube in a fixed position, and don't ever move it though - my girls free range all day so it doesn't matter that there's no grass in the run area so I decided to just sacrifice one area of grass and leave it in one place.

I loved the quirky design of the Eglu, but I prefer the Cube.

bit of a geeky question but - I have an eglu plus converter for 4 chickens but their free-ranging is destroying the plants and grass so my husband wants to keep them more confined. We currently have netting but they fly out!!! so I wondered whether anyone has actually worked out the dimensions of cube run vs eglu run and which has more space? My calculations are that the eglu run plus converter would give almost as much floor space as the cube run plus 1 extension - is this right ( am rubbish at maths  ) as if so, not sure my 4 would have emough space to be happy...

Not sure about the calculations - someone did them a while ago, so they must be here somewhere.

Just a wee point about the netting - our girls kept escaping over the top as well, so we've attached garden netting over the tops - the kind you get for protecting strawberries from wild birds, strung onto the omlet poles. We haven't had a single escapee in weeks!
