Ange1
I need your help folks! I posted a similar question under the eggs section but I am still worried about Ethel, our light Sussex! Today is day 5 of no egg So what could be the reason? Egg bound? Don't think so and had a feel and massage and a dunk in warm water for 20 minutes and I couldn't feel anything and it produced no egg. Unless it is a soft egg, maybe you wouldn't be able to feel one of those, Poet had experience of this recently with one of her girls, how did you know Poet?! Needs worming? I have bought the Werm X for putting in the water, but have just bought a new SS wolsley drinker and they seem 'freaked' by it, so was waiting until they would drink from it more confidentially, i guess I could get out the old cat litter tray that they used to love drinking from but got so dirty by standing in the water! Wrong food? There is approximately 1 inch of food left in metal bin, it's possible that it's mostly the old growers food (i mixed with layers but maybe not very well) and therefore 2 months old. Today I have thrown it out and replaced with new layers pellets. Could this effect their laying but why only Ethel? I can't think of anything else, but 5 days 2without it unheard of, any suggestions?! Thanks everyone
Egluntyne
She will be better off on layers pellets, and if the groers at the bottom of the feeder are 2 months old as you say, they may have started too deteriorate. I wouldn't give them more food than they can reasonably eat in say, a week, for fear of spoilage. The odd weather doeas seem to be affecting some hens laying. Why not cut down on teats for a few days, and keep her on just fresh pellets and a little free ranging later in the day. Is she laying under a shrub somewhere? Ange1
Thanks Egluntine, No, Ethel can't lay 'out of sight' the netted area is all lawn or boarder, nowhere for eggs to hide, at the moment they get let out to free range at 6pm for the evening the whole of the afternoons at weekends, so not long to eat grass, ants etc, but Ethel is the most greedy of them, when it comes to pouncing on the corn or mealworms (weekly treat), I will try and ration them! interesting comment about the weather. Ange1
I should have added, that she is most perky and not looking ill in anyway!
